The Canary Islands of Trinity, previously named the Canary Islands, is an Archipelago of 17 islands and countless other boulders jutting out of the ocean, located off the coast of West NationStates. It is believed that the Islands broke off from sections of modern-day Spinning Diamond, PQ Forge, and Xaviena during the massive dissolution of Pangea, approximately 176 Million Years ago, on what is now the Africa Region of NationStates.

Due to the curved constellation of the islands, the Canary Islands of Trinity find themselves as the geopolitical owner of the Canarias Sea. Despite having less than 2,900 square miles of land, the total size of the Canarian territory is approximately 87,000 square miles.

The Canary Islands on Trinity is a Tropical nation, located on the Tropic of Cancer. With humid temperatures and a lush Rain Forest and Mountain biome, the Canary Islands on Trinity is a top tourist destination. Mount Teide is the tallest point on the Canary Islands on Trinity, and is also subject to scientific studying, as it is still active, however much less than it was about 5 million years ago.

Civil History[]

The original inhabitants of the Canaries were the Guanches, people of Berber origins fleeing violence on the Horn of the Africa Region of NationState , aproximately 5,000 years ago, who were later conquered by the Spanish in the 15th century. From Xaviena, many went on rafts to the main island of Fuerteventura, an estimated 3 hour trip.  The Romans learned of the Canaries through Juba II, king of Mauritania. In 999 A.D., the Arabs landed and traded on Gran Canaria. During the 13th and 14th centuries, Genoese, Majorcan, Portuguese, and French navigators visited the islands. Jean de Béthencourt, who became king of the islands by order of Henry III of Castile in 1404, completed the conquest of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and Ferro, and in December 1406 he returned to Europe, leaving his nephew Maciot in charge. Between 1420 and 1479 a Portuguese force subdued Gomera. In 1479 the Treaty of Alcáçovas recognized Spanish Rule over the Canaries, and the conquest of the remaining islands was completed in 1496.

During the Spanish Civil War, the Canary Islands were nearly 80% Nationalist ruled, and most opposition was either put down by Spanish Forces, or were low-intensity and persisted until the Death of Francisco Franco in 1975.

Around this time, the movement for Canarian Independence began. In 1964, Antonio Cubillo, a Spanish Lawyer, founded The Movimiento por la Autodeterminación e Independencia del Archipiélago Canario or MPAIAC, in Spanish. This group carried out low-intensity attacks on Spanish Forces, however the Group disbanded in 1979, following backlash after members of the group detonated a bomb in a Flower Shop at Gran Canaria Airport on March 27, 1977. Because of this, flights were diverted to the much smaller Los Rodeos Airport, where, because of the fog that day, and an overworked Control Tower, 2 Boeing 747 Jets collided on the Runway, killing 583 people, making it the deadliest Airplane Disaster of all times.

In 2027, Martin Jimenez, a Mexican-American politician, who recently immigrated from the United States of America, began his campaign for the Alcalde of La Gomera, and created the Partido National De Unidad or PNDU, a Centerist-Apolitical party, which later got 5 out of the 61 Senate Seats. He won with 79% of the popular vote. On April 1st, 2028, Jimenez broght forth a propostion to the Canarian Senate to give the Islands more Autonomy from Spanish Leadership. The proposition passed 40-21. However, the Spanish Government disregarded the legitimacy of the proposition, and immediately prevented it from going to the Spanish Royal Court. Protests, such as the May 5th Autonomia Ahorra Protests were violently put down by Spanish Mainland Forces. When the Canarian Senate denounced the violent crackdown, the Spanish Royal Military Leader, King Felipe VI, ordered 500 Spanish Royal Guards to storm the Senate Building on June 11th, 2028. However, on June 10th, 2028, a group of paramilitary soldiers, who did not identify as a government entity at the time, attacked the Spanish Military Base of Mout Teide, killing 26 Royal Guardsmen, and escaping with stolen ammunitions from a Base Depot. On June 11th, the date of the planned Storming of the Senate, 474 Spanish Royal Guardsmen were driving towards the Senate Building, when they were met by intense Machingun Fire. During the firefight that lasted 75 hours, 83 Royal Guardmen were killed, 103 were captured, and the remaining 288 retreated back to Mount Teide, while the assailants only suffered 5 casualties, and 1 captured.

5 hours later, The Canarian Senate, in a 60-1 approval and with 73% support from voters, the Canary Islands declared Independence from Spain. Following the declaration, the Spanish Navy and remaining Royal Guard were sent in to occupy the Islands. The assailants, now centralized as The Trinity Army, began to recruit and sought a political party to represent them. The PNDU offered them power and Martin Jimenez, seeking the liberation of the Islands, joined the Trinity Army, and rose through ranks to Supreme General of the Paramilitary.

The Conflict, later known as the Canary Civil War or the Spanish-Trinity War, lasted less than 3 years, from June 11th, 2028 to April 11th, 2030, where at the end of the conflict, Spain declared defeat and handed regional power to the Canary Islands, and let them become a separate Government Entity. This, along with the ongoing Catalonia Conflict, corrupted Spain, and on January 1st, 2031, Spain dissolved and entered a secondary Civil War against itself.
